Turkish Woman, Arrested During Husband’s Funeral, Separated From Son

Esra Celik whose husband died during medical surgery was arrested by the Turkish police during the funeral ceremony as part of the post-coup crackdown on government opponents.
Mehmet Celik, 30, was on the wanted list of the authorities for his perceived affiliation with Gulen Movement.
He had a lung problem but was unable to seek medical treatment due to the detention warrant. Finally, he decided to go to the hospital for a treatment. He was late for treatment but doctors decided to carry medical surgery due to the seriousness of his illness. He died during second surgery on Saturday.
On Sunday, Esra Celik was arrested by police in front of his two-year-old son other relatives during the funeral ceremony with no reason offered.
She was separated from his son and was imprisoned pending trial.

Mother with 25-day-old baby jailed on coup charges in Istanbul
Halime Kaman, a Turkish national who gave birth some 25 days ago at an İstanbul hospital, was reportedly arrested by an İstanbul court on Friday, according to several Turkish media outlets and Twitter accounts.
Turkish authorities withdraw license of station linked to PM Erdogan’s opponents
Fatih Karaca, head of the media unit of Ipek group of companies, said Thursday Turkey’s radio and television watchdog revoked the license of KanalTurk television, citing a 2010 court decision. He maintained that the decision against the station — which is linked to a movement led by U.S.-based moderate Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen — was “politically-motivated.”
Report: Police chief sets up teams to torture post-coup detainees
“The day I was detained, five police officers took me to a mountain and beat the hell out of me. I have been kicked in the head and genital area tens of times. I managed to identify two of the torturers. One of them was called Nejdet and the other one was Battal. Yet, maybe they use nicknames….
