Speaking about Gülen, Chomsky: ‘Mandela declared as terrorist, too’
Date posted: November 16, 2015
World-famous philosopher, philologist and historian Prof Dr. Noam Chomsky gave a speech about the claims of ‘terrorist’ against Fethullah Gülen in Boston on Saturday.
Chomsky reminded that legendary leader Nelson Mandela, who was awarded with Nobel Peace Prize for his struggle against racism and insistence on peaceful solution for racism, had been in ‘list of terrorists’.
Attending as the main speaker at the ‘press freedom in Middle East’ themed conference, which was jointly held by Boston College and Peace Island Institute, Chomsky said, “Nelson Mandela, which is excessively known as respective and great hero now, had been in the ‘list of terrorists’ of USA until 1988. Pentagon declared him as a terrorist. Mandela could not come to USA without having a private permission,” in his speech.

Stating that the examples can be increased concerning this issue, Chomsky reminded that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussain was subtracted from the list of terrorists and he was armed by US against Iran in 1982.
Noting that the term ‘terrorist’ is so interesting, Chomsky pointed out that one could call ‘terrorist’ its opponent, who criticized him, “Someone can be in the list of terrorists just as a government wants to, and these kind of attempts must not be tolerated in free society,” also added Chomsky.

Erdogan: A saint elsewhere, outside Turkey’s shores?
On a recent trip to Spain, I picked a copy of the International New York Times, and saw a story that shocked me greatly. It said Mr Erdogan had ordered the release of 38,000 prisoners serving various jail terms, for different offences, in order to make space for the so-called coup plotters who had no space in Turkey’s overflowing prison. I was totally shocked by the news because I can’t imagine a situation where convicted criminals are being set free just so political opponents can be locked up.
Fethullah Gülen is a Chance for Humanity: His Inclusive Perspective for Sustainable Global Triangulation
The basic values that mark the twenty-first century are modernism, pluralism, individualism, and religion. Some claim that modernity embraces individual and social life as a whole, and that it has created new forms of religious, cultural, and political pluralism. There is no doubt that the world today is in need of dialogue between cultures and civilizations more than at any other time; this is of the utmost urgency.

Media freedom in Turkey takes another blow
On Dec. 25, Mahir Zeynalov sent out two tweets. “The first tweet contained a link to a news report about the second wave of a massive graft operation and how police blocked a raid involving more than 40 suspects, including Saudi businessman Yasin al-Qadi — listed as a specially designated terrorist by the United States,” Today’s Zaman reported Jan. 31. Zeynalov’s tweets are no longer present on his Twitter account. “’Turkish prosecutors order police to arrest al-Qaeda affiliates, Erdogan’s appointed police chiefs refuse to comply,’ read the first tweet. In the second tweet, Zeynalov shared a news report detailing al-Qaeda suspects’ escape from the country after police chiefs blocked the raid on Dec. 25.”
