New Jersey hosted its Turkic Day at the Trenton War Memorial.
The day was officially recognized five years ago and has been celebrated ever since.
In his opening remarks the head of the Turkic American Council, Furkan Kosar emphasized the importance of building bridges through cultural organizations.
Furkan Kosar, Turkic American Council: “We have been doing this for more than 10 years through interfaith and intercultural dialogue but the last four years we have been doing this as Turkic Day. We are trying to gather elected officials and Turkic Americans at the state house.”
Stephen Sweeney, a Democrat from the New Jersey Senate spoke of the state as a melting pot of cultures.
Senator Diane Allen from the Republican party also commented on the future of inter cultural relations and sending a message of harmony to younger generations.
The event was attended by legislators, senators and elected officials.
It ended with a musical rendition in true Turkic tradition.

Gülen movement can serve as bridge between Islamic and secular nations, intellectuals agree
Amid ongoing efforts by the Turkish government to close down schools opened by Turkish entrepreneurs linked to the faith-based Gülen movement, also known as the Hizmet movement, intellectuals and academics across Europe at a symposium in Germany agreed that thanks to its worldwide educational activities, the movement can serve as a bridge in promoting interreligious and interethnic dialogue between Islamic countries and secular ones.
Mandela supported mosque construction in Johannesburg, says businessman
Turkish businessman Ali Katırcıoğlu, who sponsored the construction of an Ottoman-style mosque complex, called the Nizamiye Külliyesi, in the South African city of Johannesburg, has said legendary South African leader Nelson Mandela, who passed away earlier this month, extended great support to the construction of the mosque complex.
Refugee mother overjoyed after reuniting with daughters
“There are many Turkish refugees in Canada in the same situation and separated from their families. I hope Canadian officials can use their discretion and do the same thing for them to be together,” said Baris. “I’m still missing my husband. My daughters are missing their father. Hopefully, he can join us soon.”
