Turkish school to train Brazil’s math geniuses

Colégio Belo Futuro, the Turkish school, in Brazil’s Sao Paulo has launched a math contest to be annual that received remarkable interest. Being the nation’s first privately-initiated math contest, “BELOMAT” saw the participation of a large number of students and education professionals in its first year.

Aimed to encourage participation in national and international math events, the contest in its first year was intended particularly for the public schools that usually lack resources to train their students for large-scale contests. Colégio Belo Futuro officials encouraged all the math enthusiasts in the neighborhood to sign up for the contest. They are satisfied with the large interest the contest received. Seeing the number considerably higher than they had expected, the school officials now intend to include private schools as well in next year’s event.

The highest-ranking participants along with the champions in the contest -under the auspices of Brazil’s Ministry of Education- were presented their awards at a recent award ceremony. The parents, in the belief that the contest opened up new horizons for their children, expressed their gratitude to the school’s teachers for their efforts. Likewise, various education professionals, who highlighted the contest’s contribution to the nation’s academic advancement, offered their hope that the contest will continue growing in popularity.

Several schools formerly run by the Gülen movement in Albania have been the subject of growing government pressure in recent weeks. On Oct. 28 the campus of the Turgut Özal School was raided by Albanian police without any court order or warrant, and excessive force was used in the presence of students.

Hizmet-affiliated schools removed from private school incentive list

The Hizmet schools were in the original list of those institutions which met all the criteria for eligibility to receive financial incentives to accept these students. Announced on Monday, the schools were listed on the ministry’s website until Thursday afternoon, when they were taken off without any explanation. However, an official written notice sent from the ministry to governorates on Thursday said: “It was not deemed proper to give such incentives to education institutions whose managers are under fiscal investigation and interrogation within the scope of the Law No. 5549 on the Prevention of Laundering of Crime Revenues and those that had received punishments fiscal irregularities after due inspections before,” and asked the governorates do what the notice requires.

Turkish schools’ teachers and students were among those presented with awards in a ceremony at the Prime Ministry in Romania in order to celebrate international achievements in the field of education.

Gülen calls on followers to adapt to PM’s teaching center closures

“If they close your homes, you should open dorms. If they close your dorms, you will open new homes. If they close your schools, you will respond by opening a university. And when they close your university, you should open ten schools. You should never stop marching,” Gülen said in a video that was posted at Herkül.org, a website close to the movement.
