ST. PETERSBURG

Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) Chairman Rıza Nur Meral voiced his support for mutual Turkish-Russian investment, while speaking at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg on Friday.

“TUSKON represents nearly 140,000 companies and the majority of these have grown from small enterprises. Between Turkey and Russia lies not only commerce but also industry, and we are working very hard to advance our relationship in that area. Furthermore, we are encouraging Turkish companies to invest in Russia, and Russian companies to investment in Turkey,” said Meral, emphasizing that Russia has strong defense, space, gas, chemical, metal and heavy machinery industries.

Turkish entrepreneurs presently hold $13 billion of investments in Russia, said Meral, who said that his organization has organized business trips and other events to increase this number.

“We have noticed that Moscow is not a suitable place for small enterprises to invest. As such we are directing investors towards Russia’s developing regions. Furthermore, we appreciate President Vladimir Putin’s support for foreign investment. With his innovative policies, he ensured the modernization and improvement of the Russian economy and made it a country favorable for foreign investors,” said Meral.
