Liberia’s Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has urged the administration of the Liberian Turkish Light International School to improve the quality of education beyond the secondary level in the country.

He said it is prudent for the administration to see the need of establishing a tertiary institution for students in other parts of the country. He said with the growing population of students and the long distances they travel just to have access to tertiary education, establishing one of such by the Liberian Turkish Light International School will add more value to quality education. Vice President Boakai made the statement at a ceremony marking the official ground breaking for construction work of a modern school campus and dormitory for students of the Liberian Turkish Light International School on the Roberts Field Highway in Margibi County.

Veep Boakai who was full of praise for the institution for the construction of a school campus to include dormitory said that they (Liberian Turkish Light International School) has brought quality education to Liberia’s education sector of the country. He pointed out that education with quality will not be cheap and that parents should ensure that their children have access to quality education. Vice President Boakai also cautioned parents to encourage their children about the importance of education and how it could lead to development and empowerment.

He told the school administration that the Government of Liberia appreciates the many contributions the Government of Turkey has provided and they are optimistic that Turkey will continue to make more investments in Liberia in other areas. He said the holistic way of learning to include other languages has added more value to the development of secondary education in the country, something he said he was so proud of.

However, Vice President Boakai also called on the Ministry of Education through the Deputy Minister for Instruction, Hawa Goll-Korchi, to ensure that the public school in Paul Town along the Roberts Field Highway has restrooms constructed immediately. VP Boakai said the ministry of education should improve the system of learning for students at the Paul Town public school as he said the government believes in youth empowerment and quality education.

For his part, the General Manager of the school Ramazan Burak explained that the ground breaking for the construction of modern school campus and student dormitory marked an important day in the history of the school.

Burak said that the vision for the modern campus and dormitory started nine years ago and his administration was overwhelmed that the vision will become a reality. He said his institution will continue to provide quality education in the country. He lauded the Ministry of Education for the cooperation and partnership since the formation of the school in 2006. He promised to keep the light of education shining and said that the administration is grateful to the students because they have shown their willingness and ability to learn.

The Liberian Turkish Light International School started in 2006 with a student enrollment of 3 students, but since then the enrollment has grown to hundreds of students. The school Vice Principal Linda Y. Dean added that the school was established to create resourceful programs where students will learn life skills, leadership ability, and effective communication skills among others. She said the school provides quality international education and Liberians including other nationals can now take advantage by sending their children to the school.
